Why I Started Working in Erotica

E-mail Print PDF

Anyone passionate about their work wants to challenge themselves to grow and improve.

Sometime back, I felt my abilities in composition, lighting, and production had plateaued.  I had established myself as a skilled photographer in the portrait, glamour, group, commercial, and landscape arenas.  My skills were not really improving and I was getting bored.

Boudoir photography had long been something that I wanted to try, but shied away from it out of respect for my wife.  One day I mentioned the subject in passing to my wife which led to a deeper discussion.  Come to find out, she was ok with me taking erotic style photos provided they did not cross the line into pornography.  Since then, my wife has been my best critic and has seen and approved of my work.

Feedback given by those I have photographed say that my ability to quickly build trust and connect with people helps my subjects to feel comfortable and relaxed.  If a subject is tense and nervous, it will show in the final product.

Once they were at ease and relaxed, they can have fun, take direction, and allow their natural emotion to be revealed and recorded.  It is these shots filled with emotions of the subject that memorable art is created.

In my opinion, nothing is more challenging and rewarding than working with models or clients to produce suggestive and sensual photos.

Non Erotic Photography Work

For over 25 years, I have been on the other side of a lens, photographing people, commercial work, glamour styles, and nature.

Because erotic and fetish photography is so unique, and the images are interpreted differently by each viewer, I felt it important to separate these images from all of my other work.

I still provide complete photography services that have nothing to do with erotica.  To get a better feel for my non-sensual photography skills visit paulspix.com.
